Ignorant Christians See Politics As Sinners’ Business – Bishop Obi

By Daniel Ezeigwe

The Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Right Reverend Ndubuisi Obi has described as ignorant the belief by some christians that politics is the prerogative of sinners.

Right Reverend Obi who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on preparations for the second session of the ninth synod of the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi, said that it was only when righteous men vie and are elected into public offices that a society can fare better.

Discussing the the theme for the synod “Created for Dominion”, Right Reverend Obi said that it was un-christian to assume that taking part in politics is reserved for sinners alone, emphasizing that christians who have shown proven leadership skills should run for political positions to help salvage the future of tomorrow’s generation.

He said that the theme also prompts everyone to believe that they were created for a divine purpose, and as such must try to make a massive difference wherever they reside.

The Anglican prelate who also talked about the November six gubernatorial election in Anambra State, urged christians to shun voter aparty and vote for someone who is vision-driven and who will see all Anambra people as one irrespective of religious or political beliefs.

On national issues, the bishop decried the rising ethnic, security and political tensions in Nigeria and what he described as the apparent ineptitude of the federal government to tackle vast national problems squarely.

He condemned the seeming sectional politics and marginalization of certain quarters of the country and blamed the growing corruption indices in Nigeria on compromised leadership standards.
