Yesterday, 27th Nov, 2020 Awka was agog with men and women of valor and affluent at powerful and life changing workshop titled Life of An African Girls Child, the workshop which was hosted by Women Initiative For Greater Anambra (WIGA).
It is a Non Governmental Organization founded for the promotion and inclusion of women in Governance.
Of a priority was making the girl Child realise her place within the worldview.
In her Address, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi Jp , the convener of the NGO stated that the only channel of empowering the adolescent girls child is education, with education the girls child will be pulled to safety, education gives you the capability to reason, communicate and make the right decision.
The Chairman of occasion, Chief Tony Onyima noted that Education is not just about schooling but about recognising that the female child has innate capability to do everything the male child can do.
A keynote Speaker at the workshop, Dr. Mrs. Mitchell Onugbolu urged the girls child to always uphold personal hygiene amongst themselves and also to avoid early Child’s marriage and child trafficking which harbour a lot of dangers in their personal growth
In brief, the Federal Commissioner on public compliant Commission, Prince Samben Nwosu Unequivocally enlighten the role of public complaints Commission in women emancipation & empowerment.
Some of the distinguished Guest conferred with Ambassador of the girls child includes Prof. Chukwuma Soludo , Dr. Ifeanyi Ibezi , Lady ifeoma Amobi , Prince Samben Nwosu .
Many Dignitaries from different works of life, both within Anambra and outside Anambra graced the workshop, These include Former Central bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu ibezi MHR , Former Commissioner of information in Anambra Chief Tony Onyima , Hon Commissioner for Commerce Hon Uchenna Okafor , Hon Commissioner of Women Affairs fully Represented by the Perm Sec, Immediate Past Anaocha LGA Chairman Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor , Branch manager of FCMB Nnewi Lady Amaka Obi , An Advocate of Girl Child Dr. Mitchell Onugbolu and Hon Federal Commissioner of Public Compliant Commission, Prince Samben Nwosu , Dr Dubem Onyejiaka FWACS Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecologist NAUTH Nnewi Etc.
The highlight of workshop includes, Scholarship was awarded to all the 170 students present in the workshop by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and also certificates of participations was given to all the participating schools and students in the workshop and sanitary pads was shared to all the students.
The Workshop was planned and delivered by Dr Nkem Okeke, who is also an Ambassador of the Girl Child through the Girl Child Network Africa.
About twenty Secondary schools all over Anambra State attended the Workshop, with Scholarships Awards reigning all over. The excitement and Motivation was enormous.
Interviewing one of the Students Chioma Okafor from Federal Science and Technical College Awka she expressed total appreciation to the organisers and showed gratitude to Prof Soludo for his love for Education.
The workshop is to continue Next year.
