Domestic Violence, Abuses: Speak Up – Mrs Soludo Tells Women

With the spate of gender-based violence and abuses on geometric rise, wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has asked women to show serious concerns by being more outspoken.

Mrs Soludo who stated this during a meeting with Anambra women in Awka, observed that speaking out is the first step to winning the campaign against gender-based violence and abuses, especially against women.

The governor’s wife, while lamenting the rising number of casualties that result from abusive relationships, stated that advocacy moves might not have stronger effect if victims continue to play endurance and hide games.

She commended the efforts of Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare at tackling cases of domestic violence and abuses in the State, including pushing for the establishment of a special court to try such cases.

Mrs Soludo, however, noted that tougher laws must be promulgated to deal with offenders, while the whole society, including community and religious groups must show deliberate concern to the fight.

She also called on anyone who observes or is going through any form of abuse to report to the right channels, reassuring that appropriate and immediate actions would follow up.
