Group Empowers Anambra Women

Different groups and individuals have made efforts to equip women to become financially independent and self reliant.

A group that is joining in these efforts is a non-governmental organization known as “Anambra State Female Comrades” being championed by Miss Chiamaka Okparaojiego.

The group organized a three day skills acquisition training for young girls and women in Awka.

The programme which has its topic as “Skill Acquisition: A tool to liberating women from economic abuse” is aimed at coaching the young women on entrepreneurship.

Speaking to newsmen during the programme currently ongoing at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, the convener, Miss Chiamaka Okparaojiego said they are focusing on women empowerment following the economic crunch in the country.

She said many women are still economically vulnerable but with the training, they will have the opportunity to maximize their potential as they are being exposed to skills that will earn them a living without hoping on anybody.

Miss Okparaojiego noted that it is important for young girls to be engaged despite the level of education acquired because it will boost their self esteem and make them to be independent.

A resource person during the training, Miss Chidinma Okeibe exposed the participants on what they tend to benefit if they are sound in all spheres of life, noting that skills will help them to become employers of labour and protect them who in the name of providing them financial help will begin to abuse them both sexually and financially.

Another speaker, Miss Doris Ukachukwu who trained the participants on cosmetology, maintained that if women should all embrace hardwork with persistence in things that will put food to their table, no one will be saying negative things about them.

Some of the participants, Adaora Asiegbu, Chisom Nwana and Ebele Samuel thanked the convener for the steps she is taking ensure that younger girls and women taken off the streets.

Participants were trained baking, confectionery, soap making, and many other vocational skills.
