Certainly, the successive failure of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to win governorship elections in Anambra since the exit of Dr Chris Ngige as PDP governor of the State in 2006, is a clarion call on the party to go extra mile to prepare and strategise well for the next governorship election in the State holding next year.
Facing the hurdle of the 2021 polls, It is expected of the gladiators of the party to do introspection and find out what went wrong in the previous elections and what should be done to coast home to victory next year. To cut the long the story short, what PDP needs ahead of 2021 is a candidate like Mr. Godwin Chukwunenye Ezeemo who have established a strong ‘common political courtesy’ with the people all round the polling booths in the State.
Common political courtesy means that Ezeemo as governorship candidate of a political for two consecutive elections has come in contact with the people in all parts of the State and interacted and familiarise with them. Consequently, the people know him quite well. This according to political analysts is an advantage to PDP if the party eventually fields Ezeemo as its candidate for the 2021 polls.
According to renowned political analyst, Dr Ejike Nwangwu common political courtesy was instrumental to he victory of Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 Presidential election in Nigeria. Dr Nwangwu recalled that Buhari’s previous feature in Presidential elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011 made him more popular round Nigeria, so by the time he got the opportunity to contest in a bigger platform of APC in 2015, the common courtesy he had established with the people turned out to do the magic for his victory.
Similarly, Nwangwu opined that what Ezeemo might need to win governorship election is a bigger platform like PDP. He added “Going for an election, every political party has to consider some factors that are good to bring about votes for victory, so in my own opinion the major thing that PDP as a party needs to win the next governorship election in Anambra is somebody like Ezeemo who is known to the electorates in every polling unit in the State because he has contested in two previous elections”
