The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has called on the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to clarify his position on a leaked audio of a conversation he allegedly had with Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide. The audio clip, which was released by an online newspaper, allegedly contains Obi pleading with the cleric to interfere on his behalf to convince Christians that his campaign was not against their religion.
Addressing the media in London on Monday, Mohammed said that Obi needs to come out and clarify whether the conversation did not take place, or if it did, which part of it was doctored. He also said that the leaked audio had corroborated the position that Obi’s electioneering campaign was based on religion and ethnicity, which he described as dangerous for Nigeria’s politics.
The minister is currently in London to defend the legitimacy of the just-concluded general elections and to correct the skewed narrative that had pervaded the air on the polls. He is scheduled to hold conversations and meetings with international media organizations and relevant think tanks based in London.
