BBOG Community Laments as 96 Chibok Schoolgirls Remain Missing Nine Years After Abduction

The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement has expressed disappointment over the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to rescue all the abducted Chibok schoolgirls, marking the ninth year since their abduction by Boko Haram terrorists.

In a statement released on Thursday, the BBOG movement recalled the President’s promise to rescue the girls in 2015, stating that “our hearts remain broken at the failure to close this shameful chapter in our country’s history.”

As of October 2022, the BBOG reports that 276 girls were abducted, 57 escaped, 107 were released, 16 were rescued by the military, and 96 remain missing.

The group also expressed concern over the treatment of the rescued girls and women, stating that they have not been properly reunited with their families or back in control of their lives.

The BBOG movement has made nine demands to the Nigerian government, including the rescue and rehabilitation of the Chibok girls before May 29, 2023, accountability from the Borno State Government, and the provision of psycho-social support for affected families.

The group has planned to commemorate the ninth year since the abduction with a media conference in the Chibok community and a gathering at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
