The Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder has expressed their appreciation for Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s commitment to good governance and his efforts to ensure equity and fairness in Anambra State.
In a significant move, Governor Soludo, through the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, extended employment opportunities to two medical doctors living with sickle cell disorder, offering them senior positions at the Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital. This groundbreaking initiative marks the first time the government of Anambra State has provided such employment opportunities for individuals living with sickle cell disorder.
During a press briefing, Mrs. Aisha Edward Maduagwu, the national coordinator of the association, expressed her optimism about Governor Soludo’s leadership and his commitment to addressing the needs of individuals living with sickle cell disorder. She highlighted the longstanding challenges faced by these individuals in securing higher employment opportunities due to discrimination and stigmatization. Governor Soludo’s inclusive employment initiative is seen as a significant step towards dismantling these barriers.
Mrs. Maduagwu also praised the Soludo administration for its swift action in revitalizing the educational system by employing approximately 5,000 teachers within a few months. This proactive measure has prompted the association to withdraw their children from private schools and enroll them in government public schools, where quality-oriented education is guaranteed.
The Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder commends Governor Soludo for his remarkable efforts to create a more inclusive society and provide equal opportunities for individuals with sickle cell disorder in Anambra State.
