Dr. Umeakunne Innocent Ikechukwu

Dr. Umeakunne Innocent Ikechukwu, Head of the Accident and Emergency Department at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), has addressed the claims made in a viral video circulating on social media regarding the treatment of the late Victoria Ogharibe.

In a video statement, Dr. Umeakunne clarified that the deceased was a victim of a road traffic accident. According to him, Victoria was initially rejected by a private hospital before being rushed to COOUTH in a critical state. She reportedly arrived at the facility unconscious and with multiple fractures and severe injuries.

He explained that the hospital’s emergency team promptly began efforts to resuscitate her, but despite their intervention, she passed away less than two hours after her arrival.

Dr. Umeakunne also addressed the concerns raised over visible injuries in the video, particularly to her hand. He noted that the injuries, including trauma to the thumb and index finger, were consistent with the nature and severity of the accident she was involved in.

He urged the public to disregard misleading narratives and rely on verified information.
