Actress Amandla Ebeye Shares How Relocating to Canada Has Helped Her Make Better Choices

Amandla Ebeye, formerly known as Amanda Ebeye, is a successful actress and filmmaker who has found love and relocated to Canada. In a recent interview, she shared about her name change, her life as an actor, wife, and mother, and her experiences with racism. Despite living in Canada, Ebeye has continued to thrive in the Nollywood industry, and she credits her move for giving her the freedom to choose the roles she wants to be part of.

Ebeye explained that she changed her name to Amandla because she wanted a name that was close to her birth name and easy for people to adapt. Amandla is a Xhosa and Zulu name that means ‘power’ and was a popular chant used during Nelson Mandela’s fight against apartheid.

When asked about how her relocation has affected her acting career, Ebeye said that being away from Nigeria has helped her make better choices about the movies she wants to be part of. She loves acting passionately, but she also loves being a mom and a wife.

Ebeye also talked about her experiences with racism and shared that she has never experienced racism in Canada. She believes that Europe is racist towards Africans naturally and that it’s always subtly embedded somewhere.

Lastly, Ebeye compared the movie industry in Canada and Nigeria, saying that the Nigerian movie industry is more advanced than the Canadian movie industry. She loves coming back home to shoot her films because Nigeria is where her heart is.
