In 4 successive occasions now, PDP have made a futile attempts to recapture Anambra state governorship seat — a prized possession which they had lost to APGA after the 2003 general election. For a critical mind, this recurrent decimal has called for a little retrospection into the chains of activities which might immediately or remotely border on such dismal performances.
Honestly, any objective analysis on the woes of PDP in the past guber polls in the state, will definitely expose some in-house missteps and miscalculations which have consistently conspired with other circumstantial factors against the party. Without mincing words, the hierarchy of the party in the state which often working in league with some high profile officers of the party at the national level, have been guilty of playing some crafty political game in which the internal democratic system within the party structure have been sacrificed on the altar of favouritism and godfatherism especially in the process of choosing the party’s flagbearer before guber election.
There have been a number of empirical instances in the previous gubernatorial election where the party structure in the state had been preyed upon and hijacked by some desperate and opportunistic elements within the party who usually in a bid to fulfil all righteousness would organise a sham primaries by which they hand pick and foist their preferred candidate on the party regardless of the backlash, protest, disaffection and division such infraction might generate.
For PDP to be able to break the jinx of its repetitive sequence of failure at guber polls in Anambra state, a number of conditions need to be met. First and foremost, the party must rise in unison and fortify the essential mechanism that protects internal democracy within the party system so as to forestall any possibility of such political manipulations and manoeuvrings as illustrated above.
Secondly, the party should work specifically to produce a candidate that have appreciable electoral value as well as an antecedents for electoral success in previous elections. Among the 16 aspirants who are jostling for the party’s ticket in the forthcoming November 6th governorship election, radiates an Amazon whose track records in Nigerian political landscape speak volumes of her immense and intimidating political stature. Senator Uche Ekwunife commands such a prestigious aura of an Ijele masquerade which always dwarfs and overshadows other masquerades in every environment she finds herself. Ahia oma na ere onwe ya.
Senator Uche Ekwunife is the name on the lips of an average Anambrarian; for with her outpouring love and meritorious services to the ordinary people in her constituency and beyond had etched her name on so many hearts. A leader who is charismatic, sympathetic and pragmatic in her mental and physical approach to leadership challenges is always desirable. Iyom is a striking embodiment of noble political idealism ever cognizant of occurring events around her and always forthcoming with a nuggets of workable solutions.
No descriptive nor panegyric essay will be able to fully address the impacts which iyom has made in the lives of ordinary masses in Anambra state. Market women are happily singing with her name in their various stands across the major markets in the state while their male counterparts are known to often converge and discuss about her numerous laudable works at their different shops. Therefore, PDP DELEGATES cannot afford to dash the hope of the majority of Anambra electorates who have been yearning for the day a mother figure like Iyom would have a chance paddle the ship of the state.
Preparation and strategy are two essential factors that are fundamentally linked to any successful undertaking. Underscoring the importance of strategy, a famous Chinese General and military strategist, Sun Tzu was quoted to have said that victorious warriors win first at home and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win. PDP DELEGATES should aim to win at home first by giving us Senator Uche Ekwunife as their candidate for the November 6th Anambra state governorship election. Iyom is the genius who is more than capable to break the jinx.
