Anambra state government has organized a special service to commemorate Nigeria’s 62nd Independence anniversary.
The anniversary will formally hold this Saturday October, 1, 2022.
Speaking during the service held at Cathedral Church of St Faith, Awka, the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim who represented Governor Chukwuma Soludo, said that the present administration is passionate about the sufferings of the masses and is daily making efforts to ensure that the living standard of Ndi Anambra is significantly improved.
Dr Ibezim encouraged the residents of the state to be law abiding and to support the revolutionary plans of the Professor Soludo government, pointing out that the government has zero tolerance for violence or any act that is capable of truncating its vision for a prosperous and better Anambra.
The Deputy Governor used the opportunity to call on Nigerians not to lose hope in Nigerian nation, but to always contribute their quota to the development of the country.
In an interview, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Uchenna Okafor represented by his Deputy, Dr Pascal Agbodike expressed hope that Nigeria can still work if the leaders and the led combine efforts and appropriately play their respective roles.
Earlier in a sermon, the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim represented by the Assistant Administration Officer of the Diocese, Venerable Rex Kanu, regretted the height of corruption prevailing in Nigeria even after several years of independence, warning leaders at all levels to have a rethink and ensure equitable distribution of democracy dividends across the country so as to regain the masses’ trust and be free from divine wrath.
He called on the citizens to also play their own part by giving the leaders their absolute support and prayers to enable them improve on their services to humanity.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion include, Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu, Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Office of the Deputy Governor, Sir Ugochukwu Obiefuna, top security officials in the state, among others.
The special service featured renditions by the choir, prayers for Anambra state, Nigeria and leaders at all levels, as well as thanksgiving by Anambra state government and some individuals.
