Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra Governor, passionately advocated for legislation that would deter parents from employing underaged children as house servants during the 2023 Isuofia Women’s Convention in Aguata Local Government Area.

Highlighting the moral consequences of such practices, Mrs. Soludo emphasized that children in these situations often fall victim to severe domestic violence and abuse. She firmly stated that poverty should never be a justification for subjecting children to early marriages or house service, urging families to plan adequately for their children’s upbringing within available resources.

Mrs. Soludo also stressed the importance of parents taking the highest responsibility in raising their children, urging mothers to prioritize their role in shaping a favorable home and society. Additionally, she encouraged women to engage in subsistence agriculture for food security and to maintain a close bond with their children by becoming their best friends.

During the event, Mrs. Soludo announced her plan to introduce a healthy living club in the upcoming adult literacy center initiated by the women. The chairman of the occasion, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, also the Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, commended the convention and urged other towns to emulate it, acknowledging women’s significant role in societal development.

The convention featured various activities, including a health talk on understanding and preparing for menopause, inspection of farm produce from different villages, and award presentations.
