Anambra Guber: Ekwunife Stresses Need For PDP To Consider Capacity And Competence Amidst Zoning

– Attends Anambra South Stakeholders Meeting

The leading governorship aspirant for the November 6 election, Uche Ekwunife has stressed on the need for the Peoples Democratic Party to equally consider capacity, competence and proven records of performance amidst zoning.

Ekwunife made this known when she attended Anambra South PDP stakeholders meeting on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

Speaking at the meeting, Ekwunife stated that while factoring in zoning, it was important for the party to be practical, calculative and arithmetical in choosing a candidate to fly its flag in the election.

She said that her stake in the southern zone of the state was not contestable considering her background and contributions to the zone, as well as the constitutional privileges of dual indigeneship which gives her 100% stake as a daughter of Anambra South.

Ekwunife reminded the gathering that what the party was seeking for was not a candidate but the governorship seat itself. “Since my entrance into politics PDP has given me tickets four times to contest elections, two tickets for federal house of representatives and two tickets for senate and we emerged victorious by the grace of God, even though the oppositions were stiff”, she said.

Speaking further, Ekwunife said that the 2021 governorship election and the opportunities therein for the party does not require the presentation of a candidate whose chances of victory cannot be measured due to non-existence of political background necessary to define the candidates level of acceptance, acceptability and political reach. “This is not the time for our party to test the waters, after all no one uses a Caterpillar to learn driving”, she forewarned.

According to the Igbo-Ukwu born Senator, even though zoning was fair and just, it does not guarantee victory at the polls. Ekwunife further said that she was running as an aspirant whose personality was imprinted in the three senatorial zones: Anambra South, Anambra Central and Anambra North. A combination she described as perfect for the party’s victory in the election.

Ekwunife further elucidated that her motivation to contest the election went beyond ability to win. She said that delivering dividends of democracy to the people was the essence of seeking public office. According to her, at this time, Anambra state needs a homegrown politician who has been tested and trusted, who understands the people, the economy and challenges of the state.

Some of the aspirants present at the meeting which was convened by the Anambra South PDP zonal chairman, Chief Emma Ebene, include, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, Chief Emeka Etiaba SAN, a former Commissioner for Environment Anambra State, Dr Ifedi Okwenna, former Managing Director Transcorp Hotels Abuja, Mr Valentine Ozigbo.
