In preparation for the rerun elections scheduled on February 3, 2024, in Nnewi North and Orumba North LGAs of Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has deployed a substantial number of personnel to ensure the safety of voters and election officials. A strict vehicular movement restriction has been imposed in Nanka (Orumba North LGA) and Nnewi (Nnewi North LGA) from midnight to 6 p.m. on the election day, emphasizing the importance of essential services for free movement during this period.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reinforced the prohibition of security aides accompanying politicians to polling booths and collation centers. Politicians are urged to comply for the sake of peace, with a warning that the restriction will be strictly enforced. The directive extends to state-established and private security organizations, emphasizing their non-involvement in electoral security management.
Collaborating with sister agencies, the Anambra State Police Command assures the public of adequate security during and after the election. CP Aderemi Adeoye calls on the electorate to exercise their franchise without fear, while politicians are cautioned against violence and any actions that may disrupt the process. Stringent measures are promised against political thugs and troublemakers.
Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and report any observed crimes or electoral offenses promptly. They can contact law enforcement agents at polling units, the nearest police station, or reach the Command Control room through the provided numbers (07039194332 or 112) for immediate response.
