Anambra Police Nab Gunman at Popular Awka Hotel

On the 20th of July 2023, vigilant Surveillance Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command made a crucial arrest at a renowned hotel (name withheld) in Awka. The suspect, identified as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka, was taken into custody after he was spotted suspiciously prowling around the premises.

The Surveillance Operatives acted swiftly and confronted the lone gunman, conducting a thorough search that led to the seizure of an English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition in his possession.

Following the apprehension, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka to take charge of the case. The investigation will aim to ascertain the source of the weapon and delve into the motives behind the suspect’s presence at the hotel while carrying a firearm.

The suspect, Akuchieani Echezona, will face the full force of the law as he is set to be arraigned in court once the investigation concludes.

In response to media inquiries, the Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, reaffirmed the commitment of the police force to ensure the safety and security of the residents and visitors to the state.
