Senator Dr Ikemba Ifeanyi Ubah in his ingenuity, mobilised his friends and colleagues of which many of them are from Anambra state to come together and contribute money for the development of the state.
They started with special intervention project on health sector. They began with 3 standard hospitals across the 3 Senatorial zones. Three places were carefully selected to host the hospitals. They are; Nnewi for Anambra south senatorial zone, Awka for Anambra central senatorial zone and Nsugbe for Anambra north senatorial.
The project at Nnewi was sited at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital permanent site Nnewi while that of Awka is being constructed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK Awka.
These two portions of land at Nnewi and Awka are owned by the federal government. So all approvals for buildings are done by the federal ministry of works. When the progressives submitted building plans for the hospitals for Nnewi and Awka, the federal government gave all necessary approvals.
The Nnewi hospital has been completed, commissioned and put to us. The Awka hospital is at 98% completion. I learned it may be commissioned in few weeks from now.
But the Nsugbe hospital which should serve ndi Anambra north senatorial zone is not under construction. The hospital for Anambra north senatorial zone was sited at the College of Education Nsugbe.
College of Education Nsugbe is owned by Anambra state government. The school authority provided land for the Progressives to build the hospital. After the land was secured, work began on it. Clearing of the site and setting out of the building foundation including landscaping also began. While these were going on, the necessary building approvals were submitted to the authority for approval.
But lol and behold, the state govt refused to approve the plans. And in obedience as patriots, Anambra Progressives complied and stopped work at Nsugbe site.
This clarification is necessary as some of our followers from Anambra north senatorial zone have been wanting to know why the Progressives are not updating them on the proposed Nsugbe hospital.
The major regret in what led to the stop of work at Nsugbe is that it could discourage ndi Anambra especially the wealthy ones from coming back home to contribute to the development of the state.
The hospitals are even private businesses. The Progressives led by Ifeanyi Ubah only build, equip and transfer the management of the hospitals to any tertiary hospital owned by the govt.
Those in govt should stop playing politics that retard development and play politics that encourages and attracts development.
