While neither the Peter Obi Media Office nor the Peter Obi Support Network is aware nor sanctioned the spread of what has been confirmed to be fake news about the value of the money invested by the Peter Obi administration on behalf of Anambra State Government in Intafact Beverages Limited.
This confirmation contained in a statement by Ifeatu Onejeme, the Anambra State Commissioner for Finance lays to final rest any controversy on the prudent management of Anambra’s funds by the Peter Obi administration. It is a further confirmation of the fact that Mr. Peter Obi is probably the only governor in the history of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic who explored business opportunities to invest towards improving the fortunes of his people, long after he had left office as governor.
While the author of the press statement might have been instructed to try to trivialize this inimitable legacy of Mr. Obi by giving us what he confirmed is the current value of the exact amount invested by the Peter Obi administration, he inadvertently, indicted both the government he serves and the one before it, as they supervised the devaluation of an investment made by a very patriotic predecessor, instead of improving on it.
It is also regrettable that a Commissioner for finance in a State as commercially viable as Anambra State appears to lack basic information on investment financing and returns, as his press statement failed to inform the public on how much has been drawn from the shares bought by the Peter Obi administration in the last ten years. It is impossible for that investment to have remained moribund even while the firms have continued to turn in profits over these years.
With this confirmation from the incumbent administration in Anambra State, Nigerians can be rest assured that instead of using their monies for irrelevant showmanship and other wasteful ventures, Peter Obi shall invest Nigeria’s monies in profitable ventures that shall outlive his administration, just like he did in Anambra.
