Anambra state government has today, 19th of January, 2021, inaugurated a fourteen – man committee to look into the boundary dispute between Aguleri and Umuleri communities in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The Committee has Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi as its Chairman, and the Permanent Secretary office of the Secretary to the State government, Mrs Ndidi Onuigbo as the Secretary.
Other members of the Committee are Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Dr Uju Nworgu, Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Bonaventure Enemali, Chairman Anambra State Physical Planning Board Mr. Chike Maduekwe, Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Mr. Chinedu Aniagboso, Retired Survey-General of the State, Chief Ifeanyi Ajoku, Eze Michael Idigo of Aguleri, as well as Igwe Ben Emeka of Umuleri.
The President General of Aguleri, Chief Hipo Onwuegbuke, President General of Umuleri, Mr Sunday Udearo, Youth Leader of Aguleri, Mr Nnamdi Ikeli, Youth Leader of Umuleri, Comrade Abraham Uberu, Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area are also members.
The terms of Reference of the committee include to establish the immediate cause of the dispute between the two communities that occurred on Saturday, sixteenth January, 2021, invite and interview families that own the lands in dispute, and as well establish the boundaries between Aguleri and Umuleri.
The Committee which has three weeks to complete its assignment is also expected to recommend other possible solutions that will enthrone lasting peace in the area.
The Anambra state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano was represented by the Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke at the event which was held at the Government House Awka.
Inaugurating the committee, Governor Obiano asked the members to bring their expertise to bare in handling the task that is entrusted into their hands, and to ensure they deliver on specification and restore peace and harmony in the area.
Speaking on behalf of others, the Chairman of the Committee, Retired Air Vice Marshall Chiobi promised never to disappoint the state government which found them worthy to handle the dispute, and expressed hope that with the presence of the two traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders of the two communities in the Committee, the actualization of their mandate would be easy.
