Anambra State Government Shuts Down Cosmila Hotel Awka Following Tragic Death of Miss Awuda

In the wake of the untimely death of Miss Chinyere Awuda at Cosmila Hotel and Suites Awka, the Anambra State Government has taken decisive action, sealing the establishment pending the conclusion of a police investigation.

The Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident and clarified that Cosmila Hotel was not registered with the Anambra state government under his ministry. He asserted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for a vibrant and thriving Anambra, known for its tourism, cannot tolerate any form of impunity or recklessness.

Mr. Ossy, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Development Authority (ACTDA), also lamented the tragic event and urged all hospitality owners in the state to register their establishments with the Ministry of Tourism to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Governor Soludo’s administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards impunity, and Mr. Onuko warned that severe actions will be taken against anyone, association, or facility found to be in violation of the law.

In response to the incident, the hotel’s Manager, Mr. Stanley Akunaezivi, acknowledged that the unfortunate event occurred on their premises, but he reassured that the alleged suspect was already in police custody.

The incident came to light through social media, where reports surfaced regarding Miss Chinyere Awuda’s alleged beating to death inside Cosmila’s Nightclub, with her body discovered in an abandoned swimming pool within the hotel premises.

The closure of Cosmila Hotel sends a clear message that the Anambra State Government is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors, and will not hesitate to take action against establishments involved in any form of criminal activity.
