Anambra State Sports Development Commission Holds Semi-final Draws For 2020 Academicals

The Anambra State Sports Development Commission has held the semi final draws for the 2020 Academicals Cup.

The draws held at the Secretary to the State Government, SSG’s Conference Room, Government House, Awka.

According to the draws table, for the primary schools category, Umuogali Primary School, Oba from Idemili South Local Government Area will face Eri Primary School, Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area on Wednesday August 11 by 11am at Tansi International College Pitch, Okpuno.

On the same day, Community Primary School Orsumeyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area will square it up with Eziagulu Primary School, Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Area by 1pm.

In the Secondary Schools female category, Community Secondary School, Isuofia will be up against C. R. C, Amesi on Thursday August 12, 2021 by 11am while at 1pm Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha will meet Community Secondary School, Azia, Ihiala Local Government Area.

The Next day, Friday 13th August, 2021 will be the semifinals for the Secondary Schools male category.

The first match of the day at 11am will be between Washington Memorial Grammar, Onitsha and Aguata High School, Aguata while at 1pm, Burbendorf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi, Anaocha Local Government Area will be up against Father Joseph Secondary School, Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

All the matches will be held at the main pitch of Tansi International College, Okpuno.

The Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr Tony Oli while speaking at the event said that the State Government is committed to developing sports in the State which has necessitated it sustenance of the Competition since it was reintroduced.

Mr Oli explained that the Commission introduced the female category in the Academicals to also develop female sports in the State while also revealing that a goal keeper discovered from the 2019 edition of the Academicals, Anthony Okafor from Father Joseph Secondary School Aguleri is now enjoying full scholarship at a Turkish School in Abuja.

He also urged the participating students not to neglect their academics as sports will help them develop all round as human beings.

Each of the participating Schools also received football jerseys for the competitions and footballs to enable their training.
