Anambra Women and Social Welfare Commissioner Promises to End Sexual Violence and Abuse

In the wake of the disturbing news of a 35-year-old man allegedly raping a 2-year-old baby in Anambra State, Hon Ify Obinabo, the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, has restated her unwavering commitment to ending sexual violence and abuse in the state.

Speaking from her office in Awka, Hon Obinabo disclosed that she personally called the DPO of Nzam and facilitated the transfer of the case to the state CID and eventual charging of the suspect to court.

Hon Obinabo expressed her satisfaction with how the case is being handled and expressed confidence in the state judicial system to ensure justice is served. She also warned that anyone caught in such a despicable act, whether indigene or not, would face the full weight of the law and its consequences.

Furthermore, Hon Obinabo appreciated the chairman of Anambra West local government for bringing the alleged rape incident to her attention. She urged residents of the state to report any case of sexual and gender-based violence to the Women Affairs Ministry to receive immediate attention.
