Anglican Diocese of Niger West’s Bishop Ekwe Urges Federal Government to Alleviate Citizenry’s Sufferings

The Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Niger West, Rt Reverend Johnson Ekwe has called on the federal government to address the unbearable challenges facing the people by putting measures in place to mitigate their sufferings.

Bishop Ekwe made the call while presenting his bishop’s charge to the first session of the fifth synod Diocese of Niger West held at St. Michael and All Angels’ Anglican Church, Ivite Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

The synod with the theme “In This Sign, Conquer” attracted government officials including Anambra state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Speaker Anambra state House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Somto Udeze, host of Bishops and clergy across the country, among other dignitaries.

Presenting his address, Bishop Ekwe regretted that hardship in the land, high cost of living, constant strike action undermining the education system, poor electricity supply amid frequent hike in tariff, insecurity, effects of subsidy removal, delay infrastructures among other challenges are making life unbearable for the citizens.

Bishop Ekwe applauded the good efforts of the state government in combating the unprecedented security challenges which have bedeviled Nigeria and commended the efforts of various communities in complimenting the state government’s security details by providing support for voluntary security vigilantes.

He listed some of the achievements of the Diocese and thanked God for his blessings upon the Diocese despite the economic hardship in my country.

Speaking, the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, commended Bishop Ekwe for his evangelical work in the Diocese, saying that the theme of the synod is significant as some people are wearing cross without knowing the meaning and power of the cross.

Governor Soludo represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr TonyCollins Nwabunwanne appreciated the fruitful relationship of the church with the government and urged the church to intensify their prayers for the government.

In their separate remarks, the host Vicar, Venerable Emmanuel Onovo, Clerical synod secretary, Ven. Charles Chukwurah and the Chairman, Synod Central Planning Committee, Barrister Mike Ikegbunam thanked God for the success of the synod and urged the delegates to take the message of the synod to their different churches to ensure its fruitfulness.

Launching of the bishop’s charge, presentations and other displays climaxed the event.
