Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has granted approval for the creation of a Bureau for Missing Persons in the Ministry of Justice.
The move follows the interim recommendation made by the Truth, Justice and Peace Commission (TJPC) earlier this year, as part of its Inception Report submitted to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
The Bureau’s role will be to track cases of missing persons, develop a necessary database, and aid the police in investigations, leading to the prosecution of suspects by the Ministry of Justice.
The establishment of the Bureau is part of the Commission’s preliminary recommendations, which included identifying the causes of violence and agitations in the Southeast, documenting victims and circumstances of violence, and recommending strategies for peace and security in Anambra State/Southeast.
