Representatives of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, addressed the international media yesterday, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the February 25 polls despite opposition from parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP).
The team, led by Mr Festus Keyamo, Chief Spokesperson of the Tinubu Campaign and Minister of State Labour, claimed that the 2023 elections were free and fair and that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had ensured a level playing field with no interference.
The representatives claimed that Tinubu met the constitutional requirements to be declared the President-elect, and incidents of violence and irregularities recorded in a few polling units were not enough to affect the overall outcome of the election. The opposition parties had accepted the results of the senatorial and House of Representatives elections held on the same day, which they won but chose to contest the presidential results.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC received 8,794,726 (36.61%) votes, followed by the PDP with 6,984,520 (29.07%), LP with 6,101,533 (25.40%), and NNPP with 1,496,687 (6.23%).
The Tinubu team urged opposition parties to desist from spreading false tales, having already gone to court to challenge the election results.
