Multiple fully funded Masters and PhD fellowship positions are currently available at the University of New South Wales through the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) fellowships. RTP Scholarships are fully funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government to support international students with academic excellence pursuing a Masters or PhD through research in any field at the host university.
The Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP)Scholarships at the University of New South Wale would provide full tuition support, a living stipend of $28,597 per annum (2022 rate), and an Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the successful recipients. The scholarship is available for the duration of 3.5 years for PhD students and 2 years for research master’s students.
Scholarships are awarded using a merit-based, competitive process and in accordance with these objectives. Priority will be given to applicants who have not already been awarded a research degree at the level for which they are applying.

UNSW has three scholarship application rounds annually. To be considered for RTP scholarships at the University of New South Wales, prospective applicants must apply for this scholarship before the advertised deadlines below for a chosen scholarship round. Applications must be submitted before the intended study period (Term), to ensure the acceptance and enrolment processes are completed by the Term Start Dates.
- To start in Term 3 2022, apply for the 2022 March Release
- Admission and scholarship application deadline: 4 February’2022
- To start in Term 1 2023, apply for the 2022 July Release
-Admission and scholarship application deadline: 13 May 2022
- To start in Term 2 or 3 2023, apply for the 2022 November Release
-Admission and scholarship application deadline: 30 September 2022
Eligibility criteria for RTP scholarships
To be eligible for the international student RTP scholarships at the University of New South Wale,
- Applicant must be an International student intended to enrol on a full-time basis Higher Degree by Research program ( Masters or PhD) at the University of New South Wale
- Applicants must have met the entry requirements for a Higher Degree Research program for which they are enrolled at UNSW as specified in the Admission to Higher Degree Research Programs Procedure
- Candidates must not be receiving an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth the government intended to offset tuition fees.
How to apply for RTP scholarships
Prospective candidates can apply for a scholarship at the same time as applying for a Higher Degree Research program on the University’s online system. To be considered for RTP scholarships at the University of New South Wales, prospective applicants must apply for the scholarship before the advertised deadline.
