Aviation Unions Threaten to Shut Down Industry on Tuesday, Passengers Alerted

Passengers who plan to travel on Tuesday are advised to postpone their plans as aviation unions have threatened to carry out a strike that will cause a total shutdown of the aviation industry. The General Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, Com Sikiru Waheed, made the announcement to journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to Com Waheed, the first day of the ongoing strike was just a warning to the government and the public, while the second day will be more effective. He urged people to stay away from the airport and not book flights for Tuesday, as the strike action will be a total shutdown.

When our correspondent visited the airport, it was observed that heavy traffic and union lockdowns of the check-in halls left many passengers stranded, causing chaos and frustration. Passengers voiced their displeasure at the lack of communication and assistance from airport officials.

A passenger, Justin Chinonso, expressed his frustration and stated that the strike would cause a lot of havoc for citizens. Another passenger, Sharon, a student of Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, Apo, was left waiting for her mother who had sent a driver to pick her up but had been stuck in traffic for close to three hours.

Passengers are advised to keep abreast of developments and plan accordingly.
