In a tragic incident, armed bandits have killed six farmers, including Mallam Yakubu Bugai, the Vice-Chairman of Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus-Sunnah in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The assailants also abducted over 40 villagers who were working on their farms.
The Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives’ Union Chairman, Ishaq Kasai, reported that the attack occurred on Wednesday, and the Islamic cleric was shot at his farm located around Rema area. He sustained gunshot wounds on his abdomen and arm and passed away at Jibril Mai-Gwari General Hospital the following day.
Mallam Yakubu Bugai played a significant role in the Birnin-Gwari Orphans Foundation, which supports thousands of orphans left behind by victims of armed banditry in the troubled area.
Additionally, banditry and kidnappings have been rampant in other communities within Birnin-Gwari, with the Kuyambana and Kamuku forests serving as the hideouts for the hoodlums. Various locals have been kidnapped, farms attacked, and lives lost in the region, causing immense fear and devastation among residents.
The situation calls for urgent intervention from authorities to address the security challenges and protect innocent lives in the region.
