Anambra state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has urged religious leaders in Nigeria to be focused in their role of positive reshaping of the society.
The Governor was speaking during the Church of Nigeria Standing Committee conference held at All Saint’s Cathedral, Onitsha.
The conference which attracted all the Anglican Archbishops, Bishops, as well as Other Clergymen and women delegates from across the country was a moment during which the church leaders deliberated on the issues bordering the church and as well proffer solutions to the challenges.
Governor Obiano who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke while describing church as a viable tool for societal change, asked the leaders of the church to use their high positions to correct the ever increasing errors in the society today, especially moral decadence.
The Anambra state Governor, assured that his administration will continue to assist and partner religious bodies in the state for continuous development of the state.
He however charged the clergy to also use their positions to enforce Covid-19 safety protocols in their various churches to curtail the spread of the virus as it makes the second wave across the globe.
In his address, the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate, Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba charged Anglican Leaders to be united and always uphold the doctrine of the church in high esteem, and to strive to restore sanity and integrity in today’s society where such virtues according to him, are presently rare.
Most Reverend Ndukuba tasked the federal government on more efforts in strengthening the security network of the country, to ensure the safety of life and property across Nigeria.
Chief Judge of Anambra state, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, former Governors of the state, Mr Peter Obi, Lady Virgy Etiaba, among others dignitaries were present at the event.
