Following flood prediction by the Nigeria meterological agency, NIMET, the National Orientation Agency,NOA, has given Ndi Anambra guidelines on how to avoid the tragic effects of flooding.
This was made known by the Anambra State Director of NOA, Barrister Charles Nworji, during his advocacy visit to the Association of Past Presidents General in Anambra State,APPAS, in Awka.
Barrister Nworji, reiterated that NIMET predicted that there will be flash floods in August and September of this year and called on people living or doing business along coastal areas to move upland to avert dangers associated with flooding which include destruction of lives and property.
He advised Anambra residents to be environmentally responsibile by clearing water channels, regular desilting of drainages prope r disposal of waste and avoid driving through fast flowing or dormant flood to avoid being swept away by flood.
The NOA director further said that structures built on waterways should be brought down and commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and ASWAMA for their stance on environmental sanitation which he noted, is catching on.
Responding the National President of APPA, Chief Omeife Omeife, recalled how he lost one of his cousins five years ago to flooding and appealed to members of his Association to disemminate the information to the families to avert a repeat of such tragedy in Anambra state.
He noted that the Association is impressed with the advocacy work of NOA and assured them of maximum support to achieve their goals.
The Anambra State Deputy Director, NOA, Sir Joseph Uchendu, Director of Administration, Mrs Ijeoma Nzewi, were among NOA officials that accompanied the state director to the visit.
