Breaking : Student Shot Dead In Kaduna for Protesting Against Tuition Hike

A student at the Kaduna State College of Education in Gidan Waya, Kaduna State’s Jema’a Local Government Area, was shot and killed.

The deceased had joined his colleagues, who were protesting over hike in school fees, when security operatives made attempt to disperse them forcefully.

One of the demonstrators, who requested anonymity, told sources that they came out to protest the state-owned institution’s rise in student fees, but were confronted by security personnel outside the college.

One kid, named as Emmanuel Nata, was also shot, but he is currently undergoing care, according to our source. Sunday Asefon, the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), confirmed the incident to our correspondent during a news conference, saying he learned that two students were killed and another was shot during the protest.

The students stated they had a difficult time dealing with the prior school fees, which varied from N25,000 to N33,000, and they are unsure what will happen now that the fees has been raised to N75,000. When contacted, Professor Alexander Kure, the College’s Provost, confirmed the protest but said he was still investigating the cause.
