Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the report that he told President Bola Tinubu not to probe ex-members of his cabinet, such as Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Garba Shehu, the former spokesperson to the ex-President, in a tweet on Thursday, debunked the report that Buhari told President Tinubu to stop the ongoing investigation of some members of his cabinet.
President Tinubu and his successor, Buhari, reportedly met behind closed doors in London, during the President’s private trip to the United Kingdom on Monday, June 26.
Shehu further disclosed that the meeting between President Tinubu and the immediate past president was held closed door without a third person being in the room with them.
He then maintained that there is no how someone would have narrated what transpired between former President Buhari and his successor, President Tinubu.
Why Buhari left Nigeria – Garba Shehu
The former spokesperson went further to explain that Buhari left Nigeria for London because of the continuous courtesy visits to his house in Daura, Katsina State.
According to Shehu, Buhari planned to stay away from national issues and politics in general to give his brain some rest in his county home but visitors kept coming in and he had to leave Nigeria for the United Kingdom.
The statement reads in part:
"It is fake, let us not discuss it or give it energy or air of publicity. This is fake news, and nothing more."
