Catholic Priest Empowers Elderly Community Members with Lifetime Monthly Salary

Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, fondly known as Fr. Ebube Muonso, a Catholic Priest and the founder of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry in Uke, has taken a significant step towards enhancing the well-being of elderly individuals in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State. Fr. Obimma has extended a lifetime monthly salary to over 300 elderly residents in his community as a means to support them in their later years.

The initiative, aimed at ensuring the elderly in the community can care for themselves, reflects Fr. Obimma’s commitment to the welfare of his fellow residents. Elder Chris Eluemuno, a former Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and members of the Nze na Ozo and Ogbuefi societies are among those who have benefited from this compassionate gesture.

The inaugural disbursement of the monthly salary, totaling N5,000, was held at the Afunwa Shopping Mall/Events Centre in Nkwelle-Ezunaka. Fr. Obimma affirmed his determination to sustain these payments until his passing, citing his belief in Christ’s teachings to support those in need.

“I have a special package for their hospital bills, though secretly. I will open an account for them. I have a soft spot for the elderly. I will continue to pay them the salary until I die. I will write it as my will… I will open an investment that will be yielding money for the apostolate to the elderly and generation yet unborn,” Fr. Obimma declared, emphasizing his commitment.

Chief Willie Okafor, the President General of Nkwelle-Ezunaka Union, and Mrs. Iyom Irene, chair-lady of the community’s IIyom society, lauded Fr. Ebube Muonso’s compassionate act, expressing gratitude and prayers for his well-being.

Hon. Ubaka Onwuanyi, the manager of the elders’ salary scheme, commended Fr. Obimma for stepping in to assist the elderly, while community figures like Ogbuefi Willy Ayadike and Chief Christopher Igwenagu expressed their appreciation and admiration for the priest’s benevolent gesture.

Fr. Obimma’s dedication to uplifting the elderly through financial support demonstrates a commitment to humanitarian values and underscores the positive impact that individual acts of kindness can have on communities.
