The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, has joined all men and women of goodwill across the country to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day, noting the need for parents to re-evaluate their parent-child relationship.
In a statement on Thursday, May 27, 2021, Ekwunife, while describing the Nigerian child as an important asset to national development said that the growing external influence that shapes the training and growth of children calls for vigilance and special attention to the needs of children by parents and guardians.
According to Ekwunife, the task of ensuring that our children get the best of education, care and attention is a task that must be jointly executed by all critical stakeholders of the society. “The family, the religious organizations and government at all levels must rise up to their roles of ensuring that the Nigerian child is given all the necessary support that will equip them for the challenges of the future”, she added.
The Igbo-Ukwu born Senator further stated that the provision of quality education is the right and privilege of every child, adding that education and proper upbringing are key to steering the Nigerian child away from social vices and inordinate behaviours capable of escalating the nation’s security challenges.
The youth-friendly lawmaker further noted that children are the most vulnerable in the society, urging the federal and state governments to rise to the occasion and ensure the protection of the rights and privileges of every Nigerian child. She further urged government at all levels to embark on necessary policies and programmes aimed at enhancing the opportunities available to Nigerian children in line with the sustainable development goals.
Ekwunife urged that we teach children the truth and imbibe the spirit of love, peace, hardwork and fear of God in them. She equally urged that kindness should be extended to them at all times.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology while congratulating Nigerian children reiterated her commitment to the development of the Nigerian child through programmes and projects designed to improve access to learning for all children in her Senatorial District, Anambra State and Nigeria at large.
