Constitutional Review: Ekwunife Arrives Enugu For Zonal Public Hearing

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife, moments ago joined other stakeholders of the southeast region at the public hearing for the review of the 1999 constitution (as amended) holding in Enugu.

Ekwunife was received at the Amadeo Event Centre, venue of the programme by the former deputy President of the Senate and co-southeast zonal chairman of the public hearing, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Also present were the governor of Enugu State, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Senator Obinna Ogba, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, Speakers of state houses of assembly with many other stakeholders being expected.

The public hearing, which is slated to last between the 26th and 27th of May 2021, is holding in two centres in the south east – Enugu and Owerri. The zonal public hearing is chaired by Senator Ike Ekweremadu (Enugu Centre) and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Owerri Centre).

Some of the key issues for discussion include, women representation and vulnerable group participation in government, local government administration and financial autonomy, review on the federal structure of governance/devolution of power, electoral reforms amongst others.
