Asaba, July 26, 2023 – In a move aimed at fulfilling his promises to workers, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has granted approval for the payment of N5 billion promotion arrears owed to state employees. The announcement was made during his unannounced visit to the Professor Chike Edozien secretariat in Asaba yesterday.
Addressing the workers, Governor Oborevwori expressed his commitment to fulfilling the demands made by the workers ahead of the gubernatorial election in the state. He reiterated his promise to pay the promotion arrears once he assumed office, and he has now fulfilled that commitment by signing the memo approving the payment.
The payment will be made in three installments, starting from August and concluding in October 2023. Governor Oborevwori acknowledged that the sum is substantial, amounting to almost N5 billion, but emphasized his dedication to honoring the workers’ demands.
“As a promise keeper, I came here for two reasons: to see how you are doing in your workplaces and to bring the good news that the promotion arrears you have been demanding for all these years have been approved,” Governor Oborevwori stated.
He further assured the workers of his commitment to serve the interests of the state and all Deltans, as he promised during his MORE agenda campaign. He encouraged them to continue working diligently for the progress of the state.
The Governor was accompanied on his visit by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, and other top government officials. He also expressed his surprise visits to government offices and encouraged the workers to remain dedicated to their duties.
With the approval of the N5 billion promotion arrears, Governor Oborevwori aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by state employees and reinforce his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
The workers expressed gratitude for the Governor’s prompt response to their demands and look forward to receiving the payments as scheduled. The government and workers alike now anticipate a harmonious working relationship that will continue to foster development and progress in Delta State.
