The leading aspirant for the November 6 Anambra governorship election, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has congratulated Nigerians on the celebration of 22 years of uninterrupted democracy, stating that a functional democracy is a primal asset of a nation since it guarantees inclusive participation in the decisions and actions of government.
Ekwunife, who made this known in a statement released on Saturday, June 12, 2021, noted that despite the daunting challenges facing the country, citizens must be firm in their resolve to reap the dividends of the sacrifices needed to strengthen our democracy.
Ekwunife stated that government at all levels must be innovative, creative and visionary in implementing ideas and policies aimed at improving the quality of life of the citizenry, adding that Nigerians should shun all forms of hatred and tribalism while continuing to promote peace, tolerance and mutual respect for one another.
The Igbo-Ukwu born Senator who used the opportunity to react to the recent ban on twitter by the federal government stated that a truly democratic society depends on citizens being able to hold informed opinions and express them freely using any medium or platform. She said that the federal government in its efforts to protect Nigeria’s corporate entity must ensure that the voices of Nigerians are not stifled.
While acknowledging that Nigeria’s potentials are without limit, the grassroots friendly lawmaker called for collaboration from all critical stakeholders in solving the complex and contemporary challenges facing the Nigerian state.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology restated her resolve to impact positively on the lives of the people, stating the readiness to attract and initiate more developmental projects and transformational programmes in the state. She said that if elected the next governor of the state her administration will entrench equity and fairness in governance, urging all Anambrarians to be part of the movement to reposition the state on the path of economic prosperity.
Ekwunife while commending all Nigerians for the shared prosperity and milestone, wished her constituents and all Anambrarians a Happy Democracy Day. She enjoined all citizens to play their part in strengthening the nation’s democracy and prayed for God’s blessings upon our nation, Nigeria.
