NDLEA operatives in Rivers State were attacked by area boys while attempting to arrest a suspected drug dealer named Izuu Isuofia, popularly known as “50” in Port Harcourt.
According to a statement released by the spokesman of the NDLEA Rivers State Command, Emmanuel Ogbumgbada, the attack occurred after the operatives raided a hangout/drinking joint around Odunze Street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt and apprehended the suspect with a large quantity of Cannabis Sativa.
When they attempted to move him to the patrol van, the suspect resisted arrest and raised the alarm, resulting in a scuffle. Within minutes, hoodlums in their large numbers attacked the officers with bottles and stones, and freed the already handcuffed suspect, as well as carting away the exhibits before the arrival of the back-up team.
The state Commander, Ahmed Mamuda, has charged operatives to deploy all necessary arsenals to ensure the suspect and his cohorts are arrested and brought to justice.
