DSS Probes Clash with Nigerian Prisons Services at High Court Premises

The Department of State Services (DSS) has launched an investigation into the scuffle that occurred between its officials and the Nigerian Prisons Services at the premises of the High Court. Dr. Peter Afunanya, the spokesman for the security agency, stated that the DSS did not authorize the operation and expressed the agency’s deep respect for the judiciary.

In a statement, Afunanya emphasized that the incident was unfortunate and does not reflect the professional disposition of the DSS. He asserted that the DSS holds the judiciary in high regard as a crucial component of nation-building, national development, and security management.

Afunanya also highlighted the DSS’s strong working relationship with sister security and law enforcement agencies, including the Prisons. He acknowledged that personnel from both agencies exhibited undue overzealousness during the altercation.

To address the matter effectively, the DSS has initiated detailed investigations to identify the specific individuals involved and consider necessary disciplinary actions. The agency aims to learn from the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Afunanya reiterated that the DSS handled the Emefiele’s case within the bounds of the law, despite attempts by some parties to misrepresent the situation. He reminded the public of the DSS’s previous warning about sinister plots aimed at discrediting its leadership.

In fulfilling its security mandate, the DSS is committed to maintaining professional standards, ethical conduct, and a high sense of discipline. Afunanya called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the agency in achieving its security goals for the nation.

Amidst challenges and differing perspectives, Afunanya emphasized the importance of unity, love, and tolerance among Nigerians in building a better country. He stressed that Nigeria’s progress requires collective efforts and cooperation from all citizens.
