Yesterday being February 6, Engr Chris Emeka Azubogu visited Awka North and South Local Government Areas to see all the LGA executive committee members, all the 17-man executive committee members of the combined 34 wards as well as stakeholders representing all the 34 wards in the two LGAs. This was in continuation of his LGA tour across the state to notify party members of his intention to contest the November 6, 2021 Anambra State Gubernatorial election as the party candidate.
It was few minutes to 10.30 am and our team members were waiting for our anchor man at Azubogu Campaign Office in Udoka Estate, Awka for our first call to Isu Aniocha. While waiting, I was naturally surfing through the internet, with Facebook my major interest when I saw it.
And I didn’t like it!
Unknown person/s had destroyed the set built for ‘Walk For Life’ slated to happen in Nnewi that morning.
I started making calls. But the Anambra social media hemisphere caught it and went haywire. Posts, both short and long, trended with comments characteristically diverse.
Hon Azubogu’s press release strongly condemning the act came early enough, but it didn’t stop mischief makers from making wild guesses. Even if such senseless destruction was carried out by Nnewi natives, why would one ascribe it to mean all of Nnewi being senseless? What is the logic behind concluding that such unfortunate incident should mean that nobody from Nnewi should be allowed to be governor?
To start with, who will benefit from such act? Isn’t it very clear that Anambra people are so sensitive that such acts of thuggery draw public sympathy to the victims? Will any Nnewi person, in all his/her wisdom, wish to draw public sympathy to an aspirant capable of stopping their own aspirants from getting the ticket of a party adjudged by keen followers as likely occupants of Agu Awka come 2022?
I wouldn’t want to make guesses because this is a serious matter, but one of the things I feared while Americans were destroying themselves during their last presidential campaigns was that Anambra election would come next and desperadoes could adopt one or two ugly sides of those show of shame from the Americans. After all, it took the death of Floyd George for the Democrats to start getting a foothold. We may never know why the black dude had to die.
However, anyone trying to pigeon-hole Mr Project’s aspiration to Nnewi interest is seriously misfiring. The federal lawmaker representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Constituency has clearly gone far beyond the boundaries of Nnewi. There are 15 communities within his constituency and each of them has benefitted from his numerous projects. There are 18 other LGAs outside his constituency and all of them have benefited from his numerous project attractions.
His most significant project, the Nnewi Automotive Industrial Park is not located in Nnewi. Rather, of the three communities housing the gigantic industry, only Unubi in Nnewi South is within his community. The other two in Akwa-Ihedi and Uga fall outside his constituency jurisdiction.
His next most significant attraction of Foods and Pharmaceutical Industrial Park is to be located around Agulu axis, a territory outside his senatorial zone.
Two days ago I saw the big volume of Anyamelum Aggro Industrial Plan, a project that will be sited in Anambra North, very far away from his senatorial territory.
His Fourth Medical Outreach extended beyond his constituency to all LGAs in the state.
So, Hon Azubogu is not aspiring for just Nnewi interests. If God wills his desire, he will be, like HE Peter Obi was, the governor of the entire Anambra and not that of just one of the 177 communities making up the state.
‘Walk For Life’ is a good initiative that should be supported. The initiator, Valentine Ozigbo is an aspirant I wish well. If God places it on the shoulders of the man from Amesi, I will equally give everything within my ability to support him. The major target is to have a PDP government come 2022. Presently, the PDP is one big family. And nobody, within or from outside, should be allowed to distract our collective aspiration.
Meanwhile, Mr Project delivered his messages as succinctly as he does yesterday and the applauses at the two venues were as consistent as have been in 15 earlier venues.
The tour continues today.
