In a bid to quell the recent discord between them, Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has affirmed his enduring loyalty to Governor Godwin Obaseki. During the 32nd anniversary celebration of Edo State at the New Festival Hall, Government House in Benin City, Shaibu expressed his commitment to the governor while emphasizing that his ambition to become the governor of Edo State was a separate matter entirely.
Despite the publicized disagreement between the two officials over the past few weeks, Shaibu asserted that his loyalty to Obaseki remained steadfast. He referred to the governor as his elder brother and boss, emphasizing his intention to uphold their working relationship.
Addressing the controversies that have arisen recently, Shaibu indicated his reluctance to discuss the matter, particularly in relation to Governor Obaseki. He emphasized his respect for the governor and his preference for resolving any disagreements within private forums rather than through public statements.
Shaibu elaborated on the distinction between personal ambition and loyalty, stating, “Ambition is personal and it does not affect loyalty. My loyalty to the governor remains absolute.” He went on to reaffirm his unwavering support for Obaseki’s tenure as governor, solidifying his commitment with a vow to uphold it throughout the governor’s term in office.
