Ekwunife Attends Nawfia 2021 Synod, Calls For Continuous Engagement Of The Youths

The leading aspirant for the November 6 governorship election under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Uche Ekwunife, Sunday, May 9, 2021, attended the Nawfia 2021 Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Awka.

The ecclesiastical ceremony which was held at St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church, Nawfia, Njikoka LGA, Anambra state was the 2nd session of the 12th Synod of the Diocese and presided by His Grace The Most Revd Alexander C. Ibezim M.Div, D.Min, PhD, Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province Of The Niger And Bishop of Awka Diocese with its theme, “Expanding Our Ministerial Coast: Implications For The Ordained And Laity.”

The event which was attended by over 15 bishops from across the country notably was Archbishop of Enugu Province, Most Revd. Emmanuel Chukwuma, OON and equally the Executive Governor of Anambra state, HE Willie Obiano ably represented by the deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Uzuegbunem Okagbue.

Speaking at the event, Ekwunife expressed delight to be a participant at the Synod, adding that Awka Diocese is blessed with resourceful, charismatic and dutiful individuals. Ekwunife however described the security situation of the country as perilous, calling for cooperation from the citizens so that security operatives will do their best in securing lives and property. She charged them to play their civic responsibility.

Ekwunife further noted that youths are very important in the society and there is a need for government at all levels to continuously engage the youths who she described as the life wire of the society. The Senator therefore stated that this is time to catch them young for Christ to be able to mould them into the future we envisaged.

The Igbo-Ukwu born Senator further urged parents to imbibe the culture of hard work, prayer and vigilance in their children so we can build a better society.

In her special message to constituents, Ekwunife noted that to the best of her ability she is giving them the best representation they can get. “In terms of attracting developmental projects, empowering women , equipping the youths and engaging the traditional rulers and PGs with conferences to assist the government to bring in discipline, ethics and values in our communities our Senatorial District is the best” Ekwunife noted.

Delivering the sermon, the guest preacher Rt. Revd. Dr. Humphery Olumakaiye who is the Bishop of Lagos Diocese said that ministry simply means what we do for God. He said that both the ordained and laity have a role to play, adding that God has created something in everyone to impact the world.

Bishop Olumakaiye further said that all is not well in the country, Communities, political sector, family and church. He reminded all to emulate Jeremiah who answered the call of God. The Bishop of Lagos Diocese urged both clergy and laity to share Ministerial responsibility.

Ekwunife meanwhile congratulated Archbishop Ibezim and the entire Anglican Diocese of Awka on a successful Synod.

Other dignitaries were former governor of Anambra state, HE Peter Obi [represented by Prof Stella Okunna], Member Representing Nnewi North/South And Ekwusigo LGA, Hon. Chris Azubogu, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, traditional rulers, PGs amongst others.
