The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife PhD, has commenced the rehabilitation of the gutted home of a constituent in Agulu, Anaocha LGA.
The bungalow belonging to Mr. Azuka Okafor was razed down by an ugly fire incident a few months ago, claiming valuables while rendering Mr Azuka, his immediate family and aged mother homeless.
Ekwunife who was represented by a delegation led by the former commissioner for women affairs, Lady Henrietta Agbata on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, visited the site to commiserate with Mr Azuka and inspect the ongoing re-construction of the building.
Speaking during the inspection, Lady Agbata noted that the project was borne out of compassion and need to bring succour to the victim and his family. She described the fire incident as a very devastating situation that has caused pain and inflicted unseen injuries on the household. Lady Agbata while commiserating with the family stressed the need for adherence to fire preventive measures to ensure non recurrence of such incidents.
Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Hyacinth Okafor on behalf of the family, thanked Ekwunife for coming to their aid in time of distress. He hailed the Senator for her numerous contributions to humanity and prayed God to grant her ending blessings.
On his part, the beneficiary of the project, Mr. Azuka Okafor who could not contain his joy, thanked Ekwunife for coming to his rescue.
“I am indeed overwhelmed by the pace of the rehabilitation work. The Senator has restored the hope of my family and I. May God bless and sustain her efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the downtrodden”, a visibly emotional Mr Azuka said.
Others who spoke during the visit which include a women leader in the town, Mrs. Anthonia Egolum, younger brother to the victim, Mr. Alphonsus Okafor and Agulu ward 1 Youths coordinator SUE campaign organization, Mr. Jude Ezigbo showered blessings on Senator Ekwunife, describing her as a true representative of the people.
Part of the delegation were former Managing Director of Anambra state Physical Planning Board, Chief Victor Okpoko, former Anambra state Accountant General, Mrs. Helen Nwaeri, Legislative Assistant to the Senator, Hon. (Mrs) Ify Chinwuko amongst others.
