The leading governorship aspirant for the November 6 election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom), has congratulated HRH Igwe Lawrence Ogugua Oduah on the occasion of his coronation/maiden Ofala festival ceremony held on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
The Ofala festival is known as one of the most popular festivals in the entire Igbo land and was held at Igwe’s palace, Akili Ozizor, Ogbaru LGA following the issuance of certificate of recognition by the Anambra state government. It marks the beginning of HRH Igwe Lawrence Ogugua Oduah’s reign as the traditional ruler.
As was the practice, traditional gunshots announced the entrance of the traditional ruler who was adorned in his traditional regalia in the company of his elegantly dressed cabinet members and entertainment by masquerades in the excitement of dignitaries, friends and guests who graced the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Ekwunife noted that the Ofala festival brings to memory the historic importance of the Igbo culture, adding that the people of Akili Ozizor should sustain and promote their cultural heritage.
The Igbo-Ukwu born Senator further noted that ceremonies such as Ofala remains a platform for advocating for unity, peace and coexistence between cultures and ethnic groups.
Ekwunife further felicitated with Senator Stella Oduah whom she described as her colleague, sister and friend. Senator Oduah who is the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District and Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, is the elder sister of HRH Igwe Ogugua Oduah.
Ekwunife, however, on behalf of the Nigerian Senate President, Sen. Ahmed Lawan PhD and her campaign organization extended congratulations to the Igwe-in-council and the entire community. She wished HRH Igwe Oduah many more years on the throne of his ancestors.
