The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) receives with sadness the demise of the Founder, Chancellor and Chairman of Tansian University, Very Rev. Prof. Msgr. Johnbosco Akam whose sad news broke on Friday, February 5, 2021.

Ekwunife joins family, friends and well-wishers to mourn the renowned philanthropist, astute philosopher, theologian and industrialist whose death, she notes, creates a vacuum which will be difficult to fill.

The Federal Lawmaker notes that the Uga-born Catholic priest and educationist had exercised special responsibilities in providing leadership and fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development in the academic discipline, and had through his numerous philanthropic engagements lifted many hearts, and rekindled hope in many households.

Known for his affinity and support for the indigent, Akam had empowered close to 2,000 indigent but brilliant students through award of free education from Nursery, Primary, Secondary to University. “His love and contributions to humanity were unparalleled to say the least.”

The Senator notes that the death of Monsignor Akam, a former Rector of Bigard Memorial Seminary is a huge loss to the catholic church, education sector and humanity at large. She prays God to grant him eternal rest and console his family, the catholic church and thousands who were lifted through his philanthropy.
