The Chairman Senate committee on Science and Technology, Senator Uche Ekwunife on Thursday, April 1, 2021 was received in audience by the Vice President Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON at the Statehouse, Abuja.
The visit which was on the heels of the recently held Science, Technology and Innovation Expo was a platform for Senator Ekwunife to brief the Vice President on the challenges of the Science and Technology sector with respect to research and development and the steps her committee had taken to ensure that the sector is positioned to serve as a catalyst for rapid economic development of the country as seen in most economically advanced nations.
Ekwunife equally used the opportunity to intimate the Vice President on the current security situation in her Senatorial District, Anambra Central and Anambra State. She sought the support of the Federal Government in addressing the recent spate of killing in the state which according to her can cripple socio-economic activities in the Southeast state if left unchecked.
The Vice President, on his part, assured the Federal Lawmaker of government commitment to support the science and technology sector through implementation of favourable and quality policies and programmes in line with the federal government’s drive to grow the nation’s economy and improve the standard of living of Nigerians.
