… Restates Determination To Win The Election And Drive The State Towards Economic Prosperity
Accompanied by National Assembly members, political stakeholders, captains of industry and league of accomplished Nigerians, the leading aspirant for the November 6 Anambra governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, made bold her intention to become the next governor of Anambra State as she submitted her governorship nomination form at the National Secretariat of the PDP in Abuja.
The Igbo-Ukwu born Senator was ushered into the secretariat in company of her beloved husband, Chief Larry Ekwunife (Ochendo), the former Governor of Anambra State, HE Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Okwadike), two former Anambra Deputy Governors, HE Chief Abolle Okoyeagu and HE Mrs Stella Odife, the President General of Nri Kingdom, Chief Dr Kelvin Obiegbunam, Chairman and Patron Igbo-Ukwu Improvement Union Abuja Branch, Dr Eric Uchenna David and Chief Rob Ezeife (Ahaejiejemba Igboukwu), former PDP National Women Leaders, Dr Kema Chikwe and Hajiya Inna Maryam Ciroma, former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Maina, PDP National Woman Leader, Hajiya Mariam Waziri amongst others.
Addressing the gathering, Ekwunife stated that the party needs a candidate who has perfect understanding of the politics of the state as well as the winning combination to return the party to power in Anambra State.
Senator Ekwunife told the leaders of the party that the party must present a candidate who is widely acceptable: grassroots and people-oriented in order to win the election. She said that she already has a blueprint that will assist her in developing the state to its full potentials. She further stated that she is a treble aspirant who is running from Anambra South, Central and North.
While urging the party to provide an atmosphere that guarantees a free and fair contest, Ekwunife stated that by the grace of God, she has won every single election the party has given her its ticket, and if given the governorship ticket, God will equally grant her victory.
Reacting, the PDP National Organising Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd) described Ekwunife as a goal-getter, bold and courageous woman. He said that Senator Ekwunife’s capacity to win the election is not in doubt but however, the party will provide a level playing ground for all aspirants in line with its commitment to strengthen its internal democracy.
Speaking, the former governor of Anambra State, HE Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife described Senator Ekwunife as a daughter with whom he is well pleased. He noted that the Senator is a great manager of resources and will no doubt perform exceedingly well as governor.
On Senator Ekwunife’s entourage as she commenced the journey to realize the #DivineMandate project were serving National Assembly members which include Sen Biodun Olujimi, Sen Kola Balogun, Sen. Yisa Orker-Jev, Sen Sandy Onor, Sen Betty Apiafi, Sen Yaroe Binos Dauda, Sen Akon Eyakenyi, Sen Onyebuchi Ezenwa, Sen Matthew Urhoghide, Hon Barr Vincent Ofumelu and Hon Aniekan Umanah.
Others include, Deputy Minority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Ebele Ejiofor, two former members of House of Representatives, Hon George Ozodinaobi and Hon Vitalis Okafor, former Chairman Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Rose Nwankwo, former Accountant General of Anambra State, Mrs. Helen Nwaeri, former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Anambra State, Hon Barr Ken Arinze, former Commissioner for Women Affairs Anambra State, Mrs. Bridget Obi, Former Chairman Njikoka local government, Hon Opigo Nwankwo, Nollywood Star Actress, Mrs Rita Edochie.
Also present were some state assembly candidates of PDP in the 2019 general elections, Prince Charles Okoye (Chidon), Hon Engr Moses Anene, Hon Emeka Nwokedi, Hon Prestige Ugochukwu Okafor, Hon Ejike Umeojiakor, Hon Divine Onyekachi Ngobidi. Equally in attendance were Chief Jude Osude (Odua Igboukwu), Chief Emeka Eriobuna, Hon Izuchukwu Obi, Dr Francis Okoye, Mrs Franca Mba, Hon Emeka Onuorah, Dr Ken Anozie amongst others.
