Ekwunife Visits Nkpor Old Spare Parts Market, Sympathises With Victims Of Fire Incident

— donates towards rebuilding of the market

— calls for strict adherence to fire preventive measures

The leading aspirant for the November 6 governorship election under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday, May 10, 2021, visited the scene of Nkpor old spare parts market that were gutted by fire earlier this month.

The unfortunate fire incident which had left many traders presently without any source of livelihood destroyed goods and properties worth millions of Naira.

Speaking during her visit, Ekwunife noted that representation entails identifying with the people in their difficult times, adding that upon receiving the news that she swung into action by calling the attention of the Federal Government on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, through a motion she sponsored on the floor of the Senate entitled, “Motion Of Urgent Public Importance: The Fire Disaster That Happened At Motor Spare Parts Market Nkpor” She thanked God that no loss of life was recorded.

The Igbo-Ukwu born Senator further noted that the senate accepted and adopted the two prayers in the motion. She notified the traders in the market that the Senate has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to provide relief materials and cash incentives respectively to those affected by the fire disaster. Ekwunife stated that her action is part of what she was sent to the National Assembly to do, assuring that she will follow it up to ensure all her prayers are carried out by the Agencies involved.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology however commended the leadership of the Nigerian Senate led by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan PhD, saying he is a listening Senate President who has the interest of Nigerians at heart and does not discriminate.

Speaking further, the grassroots friendly Senator called for strict adherence to fire preventive measures. She advised them to ensure they have fire extinguishers in their shops and to always turn off electric appliances upon close of market.

Ekwunife while sympathizing with the market traders gave a donation of two million naira towards the rebuilding of the market. She appreciated the leadership of the market, describing them as a responsible Executive.

Welcoming the Senator, the Chairman of the Old Spare Parts Nkpor, Mr. Victor Elobi commended the Senate for her efforts in ameliorating the suffering of the people, describing it as a proper representation. He acknowledged that he was aware of Ekwunife’s motion on the floor of the Senate.

Mr. Elobi on behalf of the Market Executive thanked the Senator for financial assistance and said it will help in rebuilding the portion of the market gutted by fire.

On his part, the Anambra PDP Central Vice Chairman, Rt. Hon. C.C Okeke commended Ekwunife for her giant strides in the National Assembly, noting that she is a strong voice on the floor of the Senate. Rt. Hon. Okeke said that he is very sure the Senator will fulfill her promises to the traders of the market. He however thanked Ekwunife for the donation made to the victims of the market.

On the Senator’s entourage were former deputy governor of Anambra State, HE Chief Abolle Okoyeagu, a member of PDP State Exco, Onyeka Okeke, former Member House of Representatives, Hon. Micah Umoh, Former Commissioner for women affairs, Hon Bridget Obi, former Chairman ASUBEB, Dr Rose Nwankwo, former Accountant General of Anambra State, Mrs. Helen Nwaeri, former member of House of Assembly, Hon. Dimobi Joseph, former commissioner for commerce and industry, Hon Ken Arinze.

Also present were, former council chairman Anaocha LGA, Hon Chibuzor Oli, former Chairman Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Chief Victor Okpoko, Legislative Assistant to the Senator, Hon. Ifeyinwa Chinwuko, Woman Leader Sen. Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organization, Mrs Ego Atuegbu, Nollywood Star Actress, Rita Edochie, National Security Strategist, Vince Onyekwelu, Hon. Humphrey Iloh (Eselu Njikoka) amongst others.
