The chips are down, the mist cleared and the match is on. Question is: whose bags are we parking into Agu Awka come 2022? I will tell you as we attempt to answer with a simple prologue.
Man came into the world to face solvable challenges. As a matter of fact, a scientific school of thought believes that it is all we are here for. By that, we try to understand, analyse and aggregate problems, then find solutions. This has been the purpose of all our education (formal and informal, experience, tutelage and apprentices.
Philosophers of republics (not just talking about Plato’s Republic – as a book) and students of political economy tell us that. No doubt those ethos have always worked for those who not only profess them but practice them in governance. In Anambra State people have always wondered why Peter Obi succeeded so much with integrated governance. He did because he practiced those ethos to the hilt. And you also wonder why Willie Obiano is where he has kept Anambra State? Well, the answer is in “The History Book Of Posterity”.
But all hope is not lost. It couldn’t because hopes are never to be lost when the society is dynamic and would always throw up a purposeful helper. For our purpose it has to be someone who is tested in political skills with the right tools and can make a dysfunctional machine technically available and working. That machine is the present Anambra State. A real machine no doubt!
Anambra is lucky because the true song of statecraft is a melody in the hands of Engr Chris Emeka Azubogu, who understands and knows how political economy works in governance. Listen to his solution on inter-communal crises in Omambala, yet the incredible agricultural potential of the area; about springs in job creation from Nnewi, Oba, Onitsha, Nkpor etc; about the co-relation between infrastructures, industries, good road network, agriculture, proper distribution of revenue etc at Ikenga in Aguata. And in Awka, the seat of power and epicentre, he talks about OgeErugo, that peculiar call, of a development driven politics.
