Empowerment: Ekwunife’s Way Of Showing Deep Appreciation To Constituents

By Linus Chukwuma

A look back at the 8th empowerment programme by the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, shows the strength of character and virtues disposition in her personality. The truth is, representation has not been this scintillating in the zone since the return of democracy in 1999.

I prefer to think that, representation is what you need to learn its ropes and master the art of lobbying, and not an ego trip business. What does seem manifest is that Ekwunife’s sojourn on the floor of the senate is not by accident. But by the dint of track record.

On January 25, Ndi Anambra Central convoked at Senator Uche Ekwunife Event Centre, Awka, where in the face of economic hardship a great number of youths, women and men were empowered with manifold of gifts by Senator Ekwunife.

To many constituents facing unpleasant moments and youths with employment-related challenges, the tricycles distributed by the Distinguished Senator will serve as a source for sustenance of livelihood. To put correctly, it was a fresh start to many without nothing else left to foster economic self-reliance.

Sadly, available data shows that poverty head count in Nigeria is 40.1%. The count is a measure of the considered number of the population living below poverty line. It simply means that more than 82 million Nigerians do not spend more than N137,430 per year according to the report of last poverty survey conducted by National Bureau of Statistics. Also because of the Covid-19 pandemic some small business owners cannot continue with businesses. And many who are employed are owned salaries. The truth is, the rate of unemployment in the country is worrisome.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology, no doubt, is a Senator who has the best interest of the zone in mind and is doing a great work towards improving the standards of living in the zone. Promoting the culture of self-reliance was the reason the hardworking lawmaker, who is a woman of extraordinary brio and political nous embarked on the empowerment programme.

Ekwunife who said that she felt happy to always impact the lives of people assured that her representation will benefit the generality of Ndi Anambra Central and going forward, Anambra state at large. “The empowerment is a way of showing deep appreciation to Ndi Anambra Central for the trust and support I received in the last election”, she remarked.

There is no better way of fighting crime and discouraging social vices in the society than the exemplary representation of Ekwunife. While she prides in legislative acumen she still has numerous constituency projects ongoing in almost all the communities in the district.

For sure, Ekwunife’s latest empowerment was widely celebrated after the testimonies of recipients trickled out few hours after the Programme.

“Senator Ekwunife is a great woman who I love so much because of her personality. She engages in an inclusive representation and her empowerment cuts across party, religious and community lines”, according to the testimony of Mrs. Calista Anatuanya.

Whenever I remember that, the woman we like to oftentimes call Iyom is leading the pack in the race of who will succeed the incumbent governor I breathe a sigh of relief because no person understands the challenges of the state and its solutions better than her.
